Size: Between 90 cm (Demoiselle Crane, Anthropoides virgo) and more than 170 cm (Sarus Crane, Grus antigone).

Distribution: All the continents excepting South America and Antarctica. Some species are long distance migrants and other ones are considered not migratory, but they also perform short seasonal movements.

Habitat: During breeding season they occupy wet open areas, as meadows and marshes. Out of the breeding period they occupy agricultural fields.

Feeding: Invertebrates and small vertebrates, also seeds.

Breeding: The nest is a platform on the ground or on shallow water. 1-3 eggs. Incubation 28-36 days.
