Size: 56-71 cm (Limpkin, Aramus guarauna).

Distribution: Neotropical and Nearctic Regions. Usually it is sedentary, but some populations are migratory.

Habitat: Wetlands, river and lake margins, savannas and humid forests.

Feeding: It mainly feeds on Apple Snail, as well as the Snail Kite (Rostrhamus sociabilis). The diet is completed with other aquatic and terrestrial prey (molluscs, amphibians, reptiles).

Breeding: The nest varies from accumulations of vegetal material to stick platforms in tall trees. 5-7 eggs. Incubation 26-28 days. The chicks are nidifugous, moving early to a floating vegetation area.
